About the Maryland State Climatologist Office

The Office of the State Climatologist is the state repository for climate information. We provide climatic data to Maryland state agencies, businesses, students, researchers, and citizens. We maintain links with the many cooperative weather observers in the state, the National Climatic Data Center, the National Weather Service offices, and many other sources of weather and climatic information. OUR MISSION

The functions of the State Climatologist and its office are to: 

• Act as liaison between Maryland weather information users and the National Climatic Data Center 
• Maintain a data bank of climatological and hydrological data and information 
• Supply data in a form useful to users 
• Refer requests for complex analyses to the appropriate person, agency or consulting firm 
• Maintain contact with users of climatic and hydrological data to ascertain their needs for data and analysis 
• Maintain a bibliography of publications pertinent to Maryland and and its surrounding areas 

The Maryland State Climatologist Office is operated by the University of Maryland Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science.

OBTAINING DATA

To obtain data, you need to define your problem and then contact the Maryland State Climatology Office as shown below. If you know what you need, we suggest that you try to  DOWNLOAD DATA you need electronically by clicking here. In your request, be sure to include:

• Your complete address, phone number, fax number and email address
• Your agency or affiliation
• Use to which the data will be put 
• Type of data (e.g., precipitation, temperature, etc)
• Time period or specific dates needed 
• Time increment (e.g., daily, monthly)
• Location (a specific city, or cities, or county, etc.)
