July, 2000 Average Monthly Temperatures

Average July temperatures throughout Maryland were the coolest the state has experienced in many years. For several stations, average temperatures for July, 2000 were the coolest on record. At Chestertown, the average temperature of 73.0 degrees F for the month was the coolest since records began in 1937. At Laurel, the average monthly temperature of 73.6 degrees F was the coolest since the station began in 1949. Similarly, Royal Oak's average temperature of 74.2 degrees F was also the coolest average July temperature since the station began in 1948. At BWI Airport, July, 2000 was the coolest July since 1891, while at National Airport in Washington, D.C. the month was the coolest July since 1918. Baltimore City recorded its coolest July since 1924. For a number of other stations, July, 2000 was the coolest in nearly 40 years. At Annapolis, Beltsville, Cumberland, Frederick, and Upper Marlboro, the July, 2000 average temperature was the coolest since 1962. For two other stations, the last time a lower average temperature occurred in July was in the 1970's. At Hagerstown, July, 2000 was the coolest July since 1976 and at Rockville, the month was the coolest July since 1979.
