Planned Activity
1. Derive surface and top of the
atmosphere shortwave radiative fluxes, using existing methodologies, applied to PATHFINDER data,
as presently available under ISCCP DX for geostationary satellites
(METEOSAT, GOES, GMS) and polar orbiting satellites (AVHRR).
Evaluate diurnal bias of radiative fluxes, as derived from polar orbiting satellites alone.
2. Evaluate the results against ground truth, as available for
about 500 stations.
3. Address issues related to overlap between satellites (e.g.,
METEOSAT and GOES).
4. Evaluate results against similar geophysical parameters
derived from satellite data of lower and higher spatial resolution.
5. Test sensitivity to model input parameters (e.g., precipitable water).
6. Produce geophysical
parameters (e.g., surface and top of the atmosphere shortwave
radiative fluxes) for several years, from
each geostationary and polar orbiting satellite, and provide this
information to the users via this Web site.
7. Work closely with hydrologists, as well as other
users, to evaluate the impact of spatial and temporal resolution related accuracies, against independent
parameters (e.g., runoff), and in other application settings.
